    Default Need help with lyrics

I do 90% originals and choose covers carefully, but it drives me nuts when I can't get the lyrics.
I really want to do Otis Rush's Double Trouble, but I can't get some of the lyrics!
I've found 2 versions on Youtube and it's pretty clear he's singing the same thing...but I just can't get it!
Just about everybody has a better stereo and better ears than I...any help would be appreciated before I just fake it.

    Hey Charlie,

What part of the lyrics are you having trouble with? Post a link to the YouTube video and the timecode pointing to where the lyrics in question start.

I found a couple of versions. Good luck!

    I lay awake at night
(Falls of love?), just so troubled
It's hard to keep a job
Laid off, I'm having double trouble

    Hey, hey, yeah
They say you can make it if you try
Yes, some of this generation is millionaires
It's hard for me to keep these clothes to wear

You laugh at me walking, baby
But I have no place to go
Bad luck and trouble taking me
I have no money to show

    But hey, hey
To make it, you got to try
    Baby, that's no lie

Yes, some of this generation is millionaires
It's hard for me to keep these clothes to wear
    --------------------------------------------
    Double Trouble
    Otis Rush
    Lay awake at night,
Oh so low, just so troubled.
    Can't get a job,
Laid off and I'm having double trouble.
Hey hey, to make you've got to try.
    Baby, that's no lie.
Some of this generation is millionaires,
I can't even keep decent clothes to wear.
    Laugh at me walking,
And I have no place to go.
Bad luck and trouble has taken me
I have no money to show.
    Lay awake at night,
Oh so low, just so troubled.
    Can't get a job,
Laid off and I'm having double trouble.

I think the 2nd line is "thoughts of love"
And the beginning of the 2nd verse is "your love got me walking"
Both the versions above also missed some very easy stuff.
It can't be "these clothes" it must be decent.
And the second one says, "Can't get a job". I can't find that anywhere.
It's always, "It's hard to keep a job.
I think this version is easiest to get:

The hardest thing to figure out in this video is the gender of some of the musicians!

Ya know what sometimes happens that's confused me about lyrics, is the singer forgets & "covers" himself on a few words with a mumble, a slur, or just some word that might fit. Then you find the printed lyrics and they're different.

I've even found this listening to albums recorded in the studio then reading the lyrics printed on the album cover...and they're different.

You may be as close as you can get for right now. Doubt you'll offend Mr. Rush.

The worst one for me is Little Willie John's , Need Your Love So Bad.
At the end of the first verse:
    When the night begins
    And the %^&&^ (&%^$^...

I think he blew it and it was a "good enough" take, so they printed it.

Default This is like folklore research...kinda fun.

Yeah, I think yer right, Charlie. Seems like Little Willie John just messed up a little on that lyric. Now Irma Thomas sings, "To the end" and Buddy Guy sings, "and the days have end". But it may be that Little Willie John has other versions recorded that are correct, or it may be that Mertin John, Jr.'s lyrics are written (author is LWJ's brother Mertin). I'm guessing this is more likely the case because B.B. King, Gary Moore, and Peter Green on two of Fleetwood Mac's versions say distinctly:

    "When the night begins
    I'm at an end
Because I need your love so bad."

This line builds integrity as it refers to the first two lines:

    "I need someone's hand
to guide me through the night."

This is my all-time favorite slow Blues, partly because the lyrics reflect the 1952 John family & neighborhood culture: "Write it on a piece of paper so it can be read to me." That's pure unselfconscious candor...roots talkin there.
