I buy most of my guitars & amps online. Now if you mean "shops" that are exclusively or primarily online, not so sure if I can comment. But what I do is "window"shopping" on Ebay. Most guitars are being sold by physical shops, guitar shops, even vintage guitar shops. I begin talking online with the seller; then by phone; then the transaction is done online.

Or you can go directly to the most reputable shops in the world...Gruhn, Norman's, Sylvan, Benedetto, Fuller's, and it's all online.

    Hope this helps,

    Doug

For new stuff, I like Sweetwater.
Big, but still scrupulous, personal service.
Guitar Center, Music123 and Musicians Friend are all the same company and God help you if something goes wrong and you need help/service.
For used stuff, Reverb.com is taking Ebay's guitar business...and for good reason.

I agree with Charlie. For new stuff, my favorite is Sweetwater. I never had a complaint with anything that I bought there.

I've used Sweetwater half a dozen times and they've always been great to me.

There are no Guitar Centers near me but there are 3 within a 100 miles. I've been into all 3 at some point and that's what led me to Sweetwater.
It seems like when it comes to service, questions, or whatever all 3 of those GC stores are staffed by dillweeds........

I'm primarily a bassist and only mess with guitars a small bit. Some years ago while in a GC I was looking for a specific overdrive pedal. The sales "professional" said they were out of stock BUT......

"Just buy another type of pedal; pedals are all the same". That led me to the door and Sweetwater.....

GC "dillweeds"...familiar with them and I'd never let 'em touch a truss rod. I browse there and try out new guitar & amp models. Buy strings and thank em for the free pick.

Robert, thanks for the reference to your luthiery. Beautiful guitars, my friend. The descriptions sound top shelf.
