I think Rory died due to complications after a liver transplant. A shame, he's my favorite musician of all time. Such energy and passion.

The first concert I ever went to was a Rory Gallagher concert. I was 4 years old and my dad sneaked my out of the house to go watch Rory. My mother was pissed off when we came back, but the concert left a lasting impression!

What an experience for a four year old with his dad...

I saw Rory Gallagher in a small club in Memphis around 1980, awesome player, and he had the most beat up Strat I had ever seen, way before I ever heard of SRV!
He was playing through two small Marshall combo amps up on chairs, LOUD!

...yes it was indeed acute liver failure and complications. He had had a liver transplant all too late and whilst recuperating in Hospital suffered secondary issues.
